R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Bethni King has been named the new children's
  librarian at Georgetown Public Library; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. King holds a master's degree in library and
  information science from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee,
  and she joined the Georgetown library in 2007 as the first librarian
  exclusively dedicated to young adult books and readers; and
         WHEREAS, In that position, Ms. King showed initiative,
  enthusiasm, and an innovative spirit, establishing a designated
  space in the library for teens, introducing video gaming into the
  library, and creating a teen art show; she also sought the input of
  young adult readers, helping them realize they had a stake in the
  planning of the library's programs; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. King's expansive, forward-looking vision of the
  library's mission has played an important role in the expansion of
  the collection to include graphic novels and Japanese manga comics,
  which appeal to adults and children as well as young adults;
  moreover, she is an active member of the Maverick Graphic Novels
  Committee of the Texas Library Association; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. King's expertise, professionalism, and
  commitment to the mission of the public library have already
  benefited the young readers of Georgetown, and she may indeed
  reflect with great pride on her accomplishments thus far as she
  welcomes the opportunities of her exciting new role; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Bethni King on her recent
  appointment as the children's librarian of the Georgetown Public
  Library and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. King as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
