R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, LaVonda Russell has demonstrated a notable |
|
|
commitment to public service as financial secretary of the Public |
|
|
Interest Law Association at the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at |
|
|
Texas Southern University during the 2012-2013 school year; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The association helps students of the TMSL focus |
|
|
their studies to gain the legal skills necessary to defend |
|
|
individual rights, advance justice, and enhance the public good, |
|
|
and as financial secretary, Ms. Russell collected and deposited |
|
|
funds from dues and fund-raising activities, created |
|
|
organizational forms, and maintained the association's financial |
|
|
records; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The daughter of Rickie Rodgers and Bridgette and |
|
|
Tony Johnson, Ms. Russell is entering her third year at TMSL, where |
|
|
she has further distinguished herself as publicity and social chair |
|
|
of the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, treasurer of the Sports and |
|
|
Entertainment Law Society, member of the National Black Law |
|
|
Students Association and Delta Sigma Theta sorority, and a student |
|
|
member of the American Bar Association; she is also a participant in |
|
|
the Texas Legislative Internship Program during the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature, serving in the office of Senator Carlos Uresti; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, LaVonda Russell's intelligence, dedication, and |
|
|
hard work have greatly benefited the members of the TMSL Public |
|
|
Interest Law Association, and as she continues her education, she |
|
|
is indeed building a firm foundation for an outstanding legal |
|
|
career; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby commend LaVonda Russell for her service as the |
|
|
2012-2013 financial secretary of the TMSL Public Interest Law |
|
|
Association and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued |
|
|
success and a bright future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Ms. Russell as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
