R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, LaVonda Russell has demonstrated a notable
  commitment to public service as financial secretary of the Public
  Interest Law Association at the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at
  Texas Southern University during the 2012-2013 school year; and
         WHEREAS, The association helps students of the TMSL focus
  their studies to gain the legal skills necessary to defend
  individual rights, advance justice, and enhance the public good,
  and as financial secretary, Ms. Russell collected and deposited
  funds from dues and fund-raising activities, created
  organizational forms, and maintained the association's financial
  records; and
         WHEREAS, The daughter of Rickie Rodgers and Bridgette and
  Tony Johnson, Ms. Russell is entering her third year at TMSL, where
  she has further distinguished herself as publicity and social chair
  of the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, treasurer of the Sports and
  Entertainment Law Society, member of the National Black Law
  Students Association and Delta Sigma Theta sorority, and a student
  member of the American Bar Association; she is also a participant in
  the Texas Legislative Internship Program during the 83rd Texas
  Legislature, serving in the office of Senator Carlos Uresti; and
         WHEREAS, LaVonda Russell's intelligence, dedication, and
  hard work have greatly benefited the members of the TMSL Public
  Interest Law Association, and as she continues her education, she
  is indeed building a firm foundation for an outstanding legal
  career; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby commend LaVonda Russell for her service as the
  2012-2013 financial secretary of the TMSL Public Interest Law
  Association and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
  success and a bright future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Russell as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
