R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The untimely death of Lylian Randy Berry, Jr., of |
|
Fort Worth, on March 11, 2013, at the age of 42, deeply saddened his |
|
family and many friends; and |
|
WHEREAS, Randy Berry was born in New Orleans in 1970 to Lylian |
|
R. Berry, Sr., and Grace Hackett Berry; he attended public school in |
|
Fort Worth and graduated from high school in Limestone, Maine, in |
|
1988; he went on to study at the University of New Orleans, while |
|
working part-time as a lifeguard; answering his nation's call to |
|
duty, he served in the U.S. Air Force for four years as a ground |
|
radio communications specialist, earning the Achievement Medal, |
|
the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the |
|
Air Force Overseas Ribbon--Long Tour, among other decorations; and |
|
WHEREAS, Returning to civilian life, Mr. Berry fulfilled his |
|
dream of becoming a firefighter and rescue diver; in 2006, he joined |
|
the Fort Worth Fire Department, where he distinguished himself as a |
|
member of the swift water/underwater rescue team; above all, he was |
|
a devoted father to his two teenage daughters and a caring neighbor |
|
to those in his south Fort Worth community; and |
|
WHEREAS, Although Randy Berry was taken much too soon, he |
|
leaves behind a legacy of compassion and commitment to public |
|
service that will continue to inspire all those who were privileged |
|
to know him; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Lylian Randy Berry, |
|
Jr., and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to |
|
his daughters, Desiree and Dominique Berry; to his parents, Lylian |
|
R. Berry, Sr., and Grace Hackett Berry; to his brother, Broderick J. |
|
Berry; to his sister, Lanita R. Berry King; to his |
|
great-grandmothers, Anna Mae Pleasant Berry and Nancy Avery |
|
Hackett; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family, and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Randy |
|
Berry. |
