R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Brenda Ochoa of John F. Kennedy Elementary School
  has been named the 2013 Elementary Teacher of the Year by La Joya
  Independent School District; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Penitas, Ms. Ochoa earned her
  associate's degree in interdisciplinary studies at South Texas
  College and her bachelor's degree in communications and journalism
  from The University of Texas--Pan American; she has worked at
  Kennedy Elementary since 2008, teaching kindergarten, first grade,
  second grade, and fourth grade, and has also been recognized as the
  2013 Teacher of the Year at her school; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Ochoa dedicates herself to educational
  initiatives outside the classroom as well; as the secretary of the
  board of the Penitas Public Library, she has promoted literacy by
  helping to host community nights and raise funds for an academic
  scholarship for La Joya ISD students; in addition, she has
  sponsored the University Interscholastic League storytelling event
  and coached UIL oral reading; and
         WHEREAS, Brenda Ochoa's commitment to the highest ideals of
  the teaching profession have greatly benefited the students of
  Kennedy Elementary, and she is indeed deserving of this prestigious
  award; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Brenda Ochoa for being named the
  2013 Elementary Teacher of the Year by La Joya Independent School
  District and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
  success in her important work; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Ochoa as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
