R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Miguel Medrano, a senior at Fabens High School, is a |
|
|
truly exceptional young Texan and he is most deserving of special |
|
|
recognition for his impressive record of accomplishment; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Medrano will be graduating as the valedictorian |
|
|
of the Fabens High School class of 2013; he is vice president of the |
|
|
National Honor Society and was the first-chair oboist in the |
|
|
All-State Band; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, For two consecutive years, Mr. Medrano has advanced |
|
|
to the UIL state contest for both mathematics and calculator |
|
|
applications; in 2013, he qualified for state by taking top honors |
|
|
in both subjects at the district event in Pecos and placing first in |
|
|
mathematics and second in calculator applications at regionals in |
|
|
Lubbock; under the direction of academic coach Manuel Cobos, this |
|
|
dynamic young man has consistently excelled in events that test his |
|
|
understanding of concepts ranging from basic algebra to calculus as |
|
|
well as his ability to perform well under pressure; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In addition to these accomplishments, he has already |
|
|
earned 37 college credit hours through the dual credit program, and |
|
|
with a near perfect SAT score, he has been offered more than |
|
|
$200,000 in scholarships by various universities; following his |
|
|
graduation, he plans to study electrical engineering and computer |
|
|
science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as an MIT |
|
|
McDermott Scholar; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Throughout his academic career, Miguel Medrano has |
|
|
earned the respect and admiration of his teachers and classmates, |
|
|
and his scholastic ability, hard work, and commitment to excellence |
|
|
have opened the way to limitless opportunities for this remarkable |
|
|
young Texan; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Miguel Medrano on his outstanding |
|
|
academic achievements and extend to him sincere best wishes for |
|
|
continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mr. Medrano as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
