R E S O L U T I O N

|
|
WHEREAS, Jessica Michelle Soto of San Elizario has been |
|
|
accepted into the United States Military Academy at West Point as a |
|
|
result of her longstanding commitment to excellence; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The United States Military Academy has acquired a |
|
|
prestigious reputation since its founding in 1802; to be admitted |
|
|
to West Point, a candidate must complete a rigorous admissions |
|
|
process and be nominated by designated officers or organizations; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Known for its strict standards and adherence to |
|
|
tradition, West Point only accepts cadets between the ages of 17 and |
|
|
22; at graduation, a cadet obtains a bachelor's degree and a |
|
|
commission in the United States Army as a second lieutenant; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Very few individuals ever receive the honor of |
|
|
attending West Point, and Jessica Soto is one of a select few from |
|
|
Texas to be accepted in 2013; the first student from San Elizario |
|
|
High School to earn this distinction, she has excelled not only in |
|
|
academics but also in athletics, with outstanding performances in |
|
|
volleyball, basketball, and track; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through hard work and determination, Jessica Soto |
|
|
has joined the ranks of an elite group, and her achievement is a |
|
|
source of great pride to her family and community; now, therefore, |
|
|
be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Jessica Michelle Soto on her |
|
|
appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point and |
|
|
extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it |
|
|
further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Ms. Soto as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
