R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Ana Reyes was elected as the first Hispanic member
  of the Farmers Branch City Council on May 11, 2013; and
         WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Farmers Branch, Ms. Reyes
  brings to her new role years of experience in public service; she
  joined the staff of State Representative Rafael Anchia in 2006 and
  serves as district manager; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Reyes was moved to enter politics after the city
  council passed an ordinance, subsequently ruled unconstitutional
  in federal court, that barred undocumented immigrants from rental
  housing; while campaigning for the District 1 seat in the city's
  first single-member district balloting, she worked diligently to
  increase historically low voter turnout among Latinos and succeeded
  in greatly improving participation rates; and
         WHEREAS, Active in civic life, Ms. Reyes volunteers at
  citizenship workshops sponsored by the bipartisan effort Ya Es
  Hora, and she has served as a deputy registrar with the Dallas
  County Elections Department and as an election judge for Precinct
  2302 in District 1; she participated in the Farmers Branch Police
  Department Citizen Police Academy and has been a valued member of
  the department's training advisory board since 2008; moreover, she
  has worked with the Dallas Committee on Foreign Relations; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Reyes majored in business administration at The
  University of Texas at Dallas and took part in the International
  Studies Program at the Universidad de Sevilla in Spain; early in her
  career, she was an immigration associate with the International
  Rescue Committee, an agency dedicated to human rights, and she was
  employed in the long-term care industry as a human resources and
  accounting associate; and
         WHEREAS, Through her many contributions to the community and
  her commitment to improving the quality of life for area residents,
  Ana Reyes has earned widespread respect and admiration, and it is
  indeed a pleasure to recognize her; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Ana Reyes on her election as the
  first Hispanic member of the Farmers Branch City Council and extend
  to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Reyes as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
