R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Palacios High School has been named a recipient of a
  2013 Signature Schools Enterprise Award from the GRAMMY Foundation,
  becoming one of only six high schools in the nation and the only
  school in Texas to receive this prestigious honor; and
         WHEREAS, The GRAMMY Signature Schools Awards were
  established in 1998 to recognize U.S. public high schools that have
  demonstrated an outstanding commitment to music education in the
  course of an academic year; the Enterprise Award is accompanied by a
  grant of $5,500 to benefit the school's music programs; and
         WHEREAS, Among those deserving of acclaim for this
  achievement are the talented young vocalists of the Palacios High
  School Choir who have showcased their abilities in numerous musical
  performances and competitions in the past year; the Chorale has
  garnered such accolades as the University Interscholastic League
  Sweepstakes Award in the concert and sight-reading categories, and
  during the event judging, the Palacios performers received straight
  superior ratings; many of the students also won UIL awards in solo
  and ensemble contests, with five members earning the chance to take
  part in the state event in late May, and others qualified for the
  Texas Music Educators Association All-Region Choir; in June, the
  group will have the exciting opportunity to travel to Walt Disney
  World Resort in Florida to stage a presentation featuring songs
  from the musical Les Miserables; and
         WHEREAS, The 65-member Palacios High School Choir is led by
  director Perry Dean, who has guided the program through a period of
  significant growth and success since joining the school's faculty
  in 2009; Mr. Dean has been supported in his efforts by assistant
  choral director and accompanist Cheryl Gray, with vital assistance
  from school district superintendent Vicki Adams, principals Sherri
  Seaman, Joe Adams, Carolyn Kubecka, and Buddy Kelley, the dedicated
  members of the school board, and fine arts staff members Jim Popham,
  Michael Schurtz, Peggy Halsey, and Keith Garnett; and
         WHEREAS, The Palacios High School Choir has realized many
  notable achievements, and the school's recognition in the GRAMMY
  Enterprise Awards is a further tribute to the ensemble's fine work
  and the faculty's strength in cultivating musical appreciation and
  artistry among area students; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Palacios High School Choir on
  the event of the school's receipt of a 2013 GRAMMY Signature Schools
  Enterprise Award and extend to the staff and students of the program
  sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the choir as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
