R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Miguel Rodriguez of McAllen High School has been |
|
|
selected as a member of the 2013 Dell Scholars Program in |
|
|
recognition of his hard work and determination to excel; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, An initiative of the Michael and Susan Dell |
|
|
Foundation, the Dell Scholars Program recognizes exemplary |
|
|
individuals who have overcome significant obstacles to pursue their |
|
|
educations; scholars receive $20,000 each and are chosen as much |
|
|
for their academic potential as for their grades and test scores; |
|
|
since 2004, the program has provided $49 million in college |
|
|
scholarships, and this year, 122 deserving students from across |
|
|
Texas, including 14 in the Rio Grande Valley, are among the |
|
|
recipients; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Rodriguez, who plans to attend Brown University |
|
|
and major in biology, will further benefit from technology and |
|
|
other resources, as well as mentoring, that Dell Scholars receive; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A source of tremendous pride to his family, this |
|
|
outstanding young Texan may take justifiable pride in his |
|
|
achievements and look forward with optimism to the challenges and |
|
|
opportunities that lie ahead; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Miguel Rodriguez on his selection |
|
|
for the Dell Scholars Program and extend to him sincere best wishes |
|
|
for the future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mr. Rodriguez as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
