R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, A 50th wedding anniversary marks a lifetime of |
|
mutual devotion and shared experiences, and Jerry and Wanda Hanszen |
|
of Carthage are celebrating this joyous milestone in their marriage |
|
on August 18, 2013; and |
|
WHEREAS, Jerry Tilton Hanszen and the former Wanda Faye Jones |
|
were the drum majors at their respective high schools in Carthage |
|
and Center, and at Stephen F. Austin State University, Mr. Hanszen |
|
served as drum major, while Ms. Jones was a Twirl-O-Jack; romance |
|
soon developed between the two, and rumor has it that their budding |
|
relationship directly affected the tempo of the Lumberjack Band; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, While still in college, they were joined in |
|
matrimony in 1963 at a ceremony held at the First Baptist Church in |
|
Center, and they were subsequently elected "Cutest Married Couple" |
|
on campus; after graduating, Mr. and Mrs. Hanszen lived in Many, |
|
Louisiana, and they later made their home in White Oak and Beaumont |
|
before settling in Carthage; through the years, they have been |
|
blessed with a treasured family that includes two children and |
|
their spouses, Kent Melvin Hanszen and his wife, Theresa, and |
|
Brooke Nicole Hanszen and her husband, State Representative Chris |
|
Paddie, as well as six grandchildren, Elizabeth, Emily, Samuel, |
|
Iris, Christopher, and Noah; and |
|
WHEREAS, Over the course of their careers Mr. and Mrs. |
|
Hanszen have taught school, sold band equipment, and worked in |
|
manufactured housing and broadcasting; along the way, Mrs. Hanszen |
|
has been a valued member of the Beaumont Junior League, the Marshall |
|
Regional Arts Council, the Panola County Chamber of Commerce Board, |
|
and the Carthage Book Club, among other groups; Mr. Hanszen has been |
|
involved in the community through his participation in the Lions |
|
Club, the Masons and Shriners, and the Carthage Fire Department, of |
|
which he is a veteran member; moreover, he has served as a deacon at |
|
Central Baptist Church; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Hanszen have enjoyed five decades of |
|
abiding love and affection for each other, and they are among an |
|
exceptional group of men and women who can claim such a lasting |
|
commitment; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Jerry and Wanda Hanszen on their |
|
golden wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes |
|
for continued happiness; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Hanszen as an expression of high regard by |
|
the Texas House of Representatives. |
