A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to a study regarding school district transportation |
|
services and state and local resources available to fund those |
|
services. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. DEFINITION. In this Act, "agency" means the |
|
Texas Education Agency. |
|
SECTION 2. STUDY REGARDING SCHOOL DISTRICT TRANSPORTATION |
|
SERVICES. (a) The agency, with the participation of appropriate |
|
stakeholders, shall conduct a study regarding transportation |
|
services provided by school districts in this state and the extent |
|
to which available state and local resources are sufficient to meet |
|
the costs of providing those services. |
|
(b) The study must include an evaluation of the |
|
transportation allotment provided under Section 42.155, Education |
|
Code. |
|
(c) The agency may enter into one or more contracts with an |
|
individual or a public or private entity, including an institution |
|
of higher education, for services relating to the study. |
|
SECTION 3. REPORT TO LEGISLATURE. Not later than December |
|
1, 2014, the agency shall submit a report to the legislature that |
|
includes the results of the study and any associated |
|
recommendations. |
|
SECTION 4. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act takes effect |
|
immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members |
|
elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas |
|
Constitution. If this Act does not receive the vote necessary for |
|
immediate effect, this Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
