A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to establishing teacher advisory councils to provide |
|
public advice on issues that affect public education. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Chapter 8, Education Code, is amended by adding |
|
Subchapter Z to read as follows: |
|
SUBCHAPTER Z. MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS |
|
Sec. 8.901. TEACHER ADVISORY COUNCILS. (a) Each regional |
|
education service center shall establish a voluntary teacher |
|
advisory council as provided by this section. |
|
(b) A teacher who is selected as a teacher of the year from a |
|
regional education service center region under a program in which |
|
the agency participates is entitled to serve as a member of the |
|
teacher advisory council. |
|
(c) The teacher advisory council may be consulted by the |
|
agency, members of the legislature, school districts, public school |
|
teachers, and other parties as appropriate to provide advice on |
|
issues that affect public education, including the development and |
|
implementation of policies, procedures, and programs that affect |
|
public education. |
|
(d) Each regional education service center shall make |
|
teleconferencing and other technological resources available to |
|
the teacher advisory council to accomplish the purposes of this |
|
section. |
|
(e) The commissioner may adopt rules to implement and |
|
administer this section. |
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
