A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to a review by the Texas Education Agency of certain |
|
|
assessment instruments administered to public school students. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. REVIEW OF STAAR AND STAAR ALTERNATE ASSESSMENT |
|
|
INSTRUMENTS. (a) The Texas Education Agency shall review each |
|
|
assessment instrument included in the State of Texas Assessments of |
|
|
Academic Readiness (STAAR) or the State of Texas Assessments of |
|
|
Academic Readiness Alternate (STAAR Alternate) to determine |
|
|
whether the assessment instrument is able to accurately measure |
|
|
student success. |
|
|
(b) In conducting the review, the agency shall provide |
|
|
opportunity for comment by parents, educators, and other interested |
|
|
parties. |
|
|
SECTION 2. REPORT. Not later than July 1, 2014, the Texas |
|
|
Education Agency shall submit a report containing the results of |
|
|
the review required by this Act to the governor, lieutenant |
|
|
governor, and members of the legislature. |
|
|
SECTION 3. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act takes effect |
|
|
immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members |
|
|
elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas |
|
|
Constitution. If this Act does not receive the vote necessary for |
|
|
immediate effect, this Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
