A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to providing parents with notice of a school district's |
|
|
promotion and retention policies. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 28, Education Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 28.0217 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 28.0217. NOTIFICATION OF PROMOTION AND RETENTION |
|
|
POLICIES. A school district shall include with the written notice |
|
|
required under Section 28.022(a)(2) notice of the district's |
|
|
promotion and retention policies. The notice must include: |
|
|
(1) the requirements for student advancement under |
|
|
Sections 28.021 and 28.0211; and |
|
|
(2) an explanation of any change made to the district's |
|
|
promotion and retention policies since the district's requirements |
|
|
for advancement were made public by the start of the school year |
|
|
under Section 28.021(d). |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2013-2014 |
|
|
school year. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
