SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 17
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Beryl Bolton McCarroll Pickle
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of Austin in mourning the loss of Beryl Bolton McCarroll
  Pickle, who died October 27, 2011, at the age of 93; and
         WHEREAS, Beryl Bolton was born on December 7, 1917, in
  Rusk, Texas; she grew up in Jacksonville and attended Lon Morris
  College; she married James Graham McCarroll in 1936, and the
  couple was blessed with two sons; and
         WHEREAS, Following the early death of her husband, Beryl
  moved with her sons to Austin in 1952 to start a new life; she
  worked for a number of years for the Texas Motor Transportation
  Association and was a member of First United Methodist Church; in
  1960, she married James Jarrell "Jake" Pickle, a widower with one
  daughter; and
         WHEREAS, Beryl Pickle was dedicated to her work as a
  homemaker and to raising her three children; in 1963, her life
  changed when Jake Pickle was elected to the United States
  Congress and she suddenly found herself on the national stage;
  Beryl became one of her husband's greatest political assets and
  was a source of strength to him throughout his 31-year career in
  Washington, D.C., and throughout his life thereafter; and
         WHEREAS, An exemplary lady and a leader in her community,
  Beryl Pickle was a generous and kindhearted person who was
  devoted to her family and who was respected for her
  accomplishments; and
         WHEREAS, Beryl gave unselfishly of her time to others, and
  her courageous attitude toward life was inspirational to those
  who knew her; she was beloved by many, and she leaves behind
  memories that will be treasured forever by all who were
  privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  83rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
  bereaved family of Beryl Bolton McCarroll Pickle; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy
  from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
  day, it do so in memory of Beryl Pickle.
