SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 33
|
|
WHEREAS, Five businesses that have enjoyed longtime |
|
success in the greater San Antonio area--Cox Manufacturing, |
|
Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home, Frontier Enterprises, J. R. |
|
Mooney Galleries of Fine Art, and New Braunfels Smokehouse, |
|
Incorporated--have received Texas Treasure Business Awards from |
|
the Texas Historical Commission; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Texas Treasure Business Award recognizes the |
|
contributions of well-established businesses to the vitality of |
|
the state economy; it is presented to Texas-based companies that |
|
have been in operation for 50 years or more and that continue to |
|
benefit the communities that they serve; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Cox Manufacturing, a small machine parts company |
|
located in San Antonio, was established by William Cox, Sr., in |
|
1956; now run by the founder's son, Bill Cox, the business |
|
remains committed to both its customers and its employees; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home, founded in 1882 |
|
by Carl Oscar Ebensberger, was managed by generations of the |
|
Ebensberger family before a co-ownership with Dustin and Jo Lynn |
|
Fisher was formed in 2008; with a history spanning 130 years, it |
|
is considered the oldest continuously operated business in |
|
Boerne; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Frontier Enterprises owns Jim's Restaurants and |
|
the Magic Time Machine family of restaurants; established in 1947 |
|
when G. "Jim" Hasslocher began selling watermelon slices next to |
|
his bicycle rental service, the business soon evolved into a |
|
drive-in with burgers, milkshakes, and carhops; more than six |
|
decades later, the Hasslocher family operates 21 casual dining |
|
restaurants in San Antonio, Austin, and Dallas; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, J. R. Mooney Galleries of Fine Art was founded in |
|
San Antonio by Joe and Adelle Mooney in 1947; in addition to |
|
featuring work from both Texas and internationally renowned |
|
artists, it offers custom framing services and has counted the |
|
Vatican, United States presidents, and Texas governors among its |
|
clients; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, New Braunfels Smokehouse, Incorporated, was |
|
established in 1945 by Russell Kemble "Kim" Dunbar and Bill |
|
Wyatt; now owned by Dudley and Sue Snyder, the company offers a |
|
variety of meats by mail order, and its restaurant retains the |
|
look of its original "Tastin' Room" location from the 1950s; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, For decades, these businesses have stimulated the |
|
local economy while providing employment for countless Texans, |
|
and in so doing, they have played a vital role in the continued |
|
prosperity of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd |
|
Legislature, hereby recognize Cox Manufacturing, Ebensberger-Fisher |
|
Funeral Home, Frontier Enterprises, J. R. Mooney Galleries of |
|
Fine Art, and New Braunfels Smokehouse, Incorporated, on their |
|
receipt of Texas Treasure Business Awards and commend the many |
|
individuals who have contributed to their success and longevity; |
|
and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for each |
|
company as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
