SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 39
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the Fort Worth Police Department and the Islamic
Speakers Bureau of Dallas-Fort Worth for their exemplary efforts
in organizing the Candles for Connecticut service; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional event was held at First United
Methodist Church in Fort Worth on December 20, 2012, in memory of
the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting tragedy
  in Newtown, Connecticut; and
WHEREAS, These two outstanding organizations, in a remarkably
short period of time, made the necessary preparations to bring
together people of varying backgrounds and faiths in a common
  cause; and
WHEREAS, The speakers at this interfaith vigil included
Imam Moujahed Bakash, Rabbi Andrew Bloom, and Pastor Al
Meredith, along with Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price and Police
  Chief Jeffrey Halstead; and
WHEREAS, The coming together of people from all walks of
life to reflect on an event of national importance embodies the

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
Legislature, hereby commend the Fort Worth Police Department and the
Islamic Speakers Bureau of Dallas-Fort Worth on their exemplary work
in organizing the Candles for Connecticut service and extend to them

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
