SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 49
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Maria Teresa Devlin
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas extends
  condolences to those mourning the loss of Maria Teresa Devlin,
  who died October 16, 2012, at the age of 71; and
         WHEREAS, Maria Teresa Devlin was born in San Jose, Costa
  Rica, and immigrated to the United States at an early age; she
  served as a cloistered Carmelite nun for nine years; after
  leaving the sisterhood, she married the late Thomas Leroy Devlin
  in 1965; and
         WHEREAS, In 1992, Teresa chose to pursue her vocation as a
  missionary, and in 1996, she began her ministry in Honduras; she
  devoted her time to connecting with the people, and she opened a
  conservatory of music that continues to have an impact on the
  lives of young citizens; in 2009, she broke ground for an
  orphanage that is in partnership with the Baptist University of
  the Americas; and
         WHEREAS, Teresa was a devout Christian and a generous,
  kindhearted person; she was respected and admired in the
  community for the sacrifices she made while helping others; and
         WHEREAS, Teresa Devlin was a true humanitarian who was
  beloved by many, and she will long be remembered with affection
  and appreciation by all who were privileged to share in her life;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  83rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
  bereaved family of Maria Teresa Devlin; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy
  from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
  day, it do so in memory of Teresa Devlin.
