SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 70

In Memory |

of |

|
Thurma G. Rigmaiden |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|
|
citizens of Houston in mourning the loss of Thurma G. Rigmaiden, |
|
|
who died January 8, 2013; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Thurma Rigmaiden was born in Liberty to Elisha and |
|
|
Dora Green; she attended Phillis Wheatley High School and earned |
|
|
bachelor's and master's degrees from Texas Southern University; |
|
|
she was married to L. M. Rigmaiden; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Rigmaiden enjoyed a long and fruitful career |
|
|
as a teacher with the Houston Independent School District; she |
|
|
taught first grade for many years at Sanderson and Grimes |
|
|
Elementary Schools and was beloved by her students, many of whom |
|
|
continued to share their lives with her long after they left her |
|
|
classroom; she was a lifetime member of the Texas Retired |
|
|
Teachers Association and the Houston-Harris County Retired |
|
|
Teachers Association; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A devout Christian who practiced her beliefs in |
|
|
her daily life, she was a longtime and faithful member of Mount |
|
|
Moriah Baptist Church, and she was active in Mount Moriah's |
|
|
Mission I; her enduring wish was for her large and loving |
|
|
extended family to share in the happiness she received from her |
|
|
faith; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A woman of grace, courage, and compassion, she |
|
|
gave unselfishly to others, and she will be long remembered for |
|
|
her wisdom, her warmth, and her enthusiasm for living each day to |
|
|
the fullest; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
|
83rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the |
|
|
bereaved family of Thurma G. Rigmaiden; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the |
|
|
Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do |
|
|
so in memory of Thurma Rigmaiden. |
