SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 74

Margaret Christine Laws Holcombe |
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|
citizens of Cameron in mourning the loss of Margaret Christine |
|
Laws Holcombe, who died January 3, 2013, at the age of 66; and |
|
WHEREAS, Chris Holcombe was born May 20, 1946, in Lockhart; |
|
she graduated from Del Valle High School in Austin in 1963 before |
|
entering The University of Texas at Austin, where she earned a |
|
degree in home economics; and |
|
WHEREAS, She was married to Roderick Holcombe, and the |
|
couple raised two sons, Andrew and William, who were a source of |
|
much pride and joy and who blessed them with two grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Holcombe enjoyed a productive, 35-year |
|
career with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service as the |
|
county extension agent for family and consumer sciences in Milam |
|
County; over the course of her career, she received numerous |
|
awards for her exceptional service, most notably the Texas 4-H |
|
Meritorious Service Award; and |
|
WHEREAS, After her retirement, she continued to serve her |
|
community by volunteering for a wide variety of charitable and |
|
civic organizations, including the First United Methodist Women, |
|
the Republican Women of Milam County, the Cameron Lions Club, and |
|
the Cameron Arts and Service League; in 2010, she was named |
|
Volunteer of the Year by the Cameron Chamber of Commerce; and |
|
WHEREAS, A woman of generosity, compassion, and strength, |
|
she gave unselfishly to others, and her wisdom, her commitment to |
|
service, and her enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest |
|
will not be forgotten; and |
|
WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, |
|
and she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by |
|
her family and countless friends; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd |
|
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|
family of Margaret Christine Holcombe; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
memory of Chris Holcombe. |
