SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 99
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Gilberto Borja on the grand occasion of his 90th
  birthday; and
         WHEREAS, Gilberto Borja was born February 2, 1923, in
  Brownsville; a 1941 graduate of Brownsville High School, he
  enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps and served during
  World War II at Moore Field in Mission; and
         WHEREAS, He married Lillian Longoria in 1944, and the
  couple enjoyed more than four decades of life together, raising
  three daughters; he married Emma Elizondo in 1987, and they moved
  to Austin in 2012 to be near their children; he has been blessed
  with five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Borja worked for the United States Postal
  Service for 36 years, rising to the position of director of
  postal operations and retiring as an assistant postmaster; he was
  affiliated with the Valley Federal Credit Union for more than 60
  years and served on its board of directors; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Borja is a devout Catholic who practices his
  faith in his daily life; through the years, he has served the
  Diocese of Brownsville and Saint Mary's Catholic Church with
  devotion and passion; he has been active in the Serra Club and
  served as its president and governor, and he and his wife
  provided a Eucharistic service and communion to residents of the
  Spanish Meadows Nursing Home for more than 20 years; and
         WHEREAS, A respected and admired member of his community,
  he is noted for his courage, his compassion for others, and his
  enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  83rd Legislature, hereby commend Gilberto Borja on his many
  outstanding achievements and extend to him best wishes for a
  memorable 90th birthday celebration; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
