SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 103
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Joe K. Longley on the occasion of his 70th birthday; and
         WHEREAS, This distinguished attorney is well known for his
  wisdom and generosity of spirit, and he is an admired and
  respected citizen of our state; and
         WHEREAS, Joe Longley was born February 10, 1943; he has
  served the people of Texas with distinction through his work to
  ensure that they are treated fairly and with equity by the
  state's businesses; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Longley played a vital role in the passage of
  some of the nation's strongest consumer protection legislation
  when, as the 29-year-old chief of the state attorney general's
  Antitrust and Consumer Protection Division, he coauthored and
  shepherded through to passage the Texas Deceptive Trade
  Practices-Consumer Protection Act; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Mr. Longley has devoted
  his practice of law to helping those victimized by consumer fraud
  and bad faith insurance practices; he has also been an adjunct
  professor at The University of Texas School of Law and served as
  director of the State Bar of Texas; and
         WHEREAS, He and his law partner, Philip Maxwell, have been
  named to Texas Lawyer's 100 Legal Legends, and he was the 2011
  recipient of the Insurance Legend award from the state bar's
  Insurance Section; known as the number one enemy of the fine
  print, he is truly deserving of recognition as he achieves this
  milestone in his life; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
  Legislature, hereby commend Joe K. Longley on his many
  outstanding achievements and extend to him best wishes for a
  memorable 70th birthday; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
