SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 103
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Joe K. Longley on the occasion of his 70th birthday; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This distinguished attorney is well known for his |
|
|
wisdom and generosity of spirit, and he is an admired and |
|
|
respected citizen of our state; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Joe Longley was born February 10, 1943; he has |
|
|
served the people of Texas with distinction through his work to |
|
|
ensure that they are treated fairly and with equity by the |
|
|
state's businesses; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Longley played a vital role in the passage of |
|
|
some of the nation's strongest consumer protection legislation |
|
|
when, as the 29-year-old chief of the state attorney general's |
|
|
Antitrust and Consumer Protection Division, he coauthored and |
|
|
shepherded through to passage the Texas Deceptive Trade |
|
|
Practices-Consumer Protection Act; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Mr. Longley has devoted |
|
|
his practice of law to helping those victimized by consumer fraud |
|
|
and bad faith insurance practices; he has also been an adjunct |
|
|
professor at The University of Texas School of Law and served as |
|
|
director of the State Bar of Texas; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, He and his law partner, Philip Maxwell, have been |
|
|
named to Texas Lawyer's 100 Legal Legends, and he was the 2011 |
|
|
recipient of the Insurance Legend award from the state bar's |
|
|
Insurance Section; known as the number one enemy of the fine |
|
|
print, he is truly deserving of recognition as he achieves this |
|
|
milestone in his life; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend Joe K. Longley on his many |
|
|
outstanding achievements and extend to him best wishes for a |
|
|
memorable 70th birthday; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
