SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 131
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Robert Mitchell Wilson
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  residents of Brownwood and Arlington in mourning the loss of
  Robert Mitchell Wilson, who died January 16, 2013, at the age of
  69; and
         WHEREAS, Born July 2, 1943, into a highly creative family,
  Mitch Wilson was a devoted educator throughout his life; he
  received his bachelor of arts degree from Howard Payne College
  and later attained a master's degree in painting from Stephen F.
  Austin State University; and
         WHEREAS, While he was a college student, Mr. Wilson earned
  the respect of his community for his diverse talents; he loved
  virtually all disciplines of art and excelled in set design,
  parade float design, dance, painting, and the direction and
  promotion of talent shows; and
         WHEREAS, After a stint in the United States Army during the
  Vietnam War, Mr. Wilson resumed his commitment to art upon his
  return to Arlington; there, he became a beloved arts teacher at
  Carter Junior High School and then at Gunn Junior High School,
  where he started the school's art department; Mr. Wilson
  consistently supported the Arlington Arts League's annual
  scholarship program and became known as the "Voice of Art
  Education"; and
         WHEREAS, By the time the venerable teacher retired in
  January of 2010, he had instructed more than 6,000 students; an
  estimated 200 friends and supporters attended a celebration in
  his honor at the Arlington Museum of Art, and he received well
  wishes from former First Lady Laura Bush; and
         WHEREAS, During his teaching career, Mr. Wilson received
  many honors, including Texas Art Educator of the Year and the
  Arlington Arts League's Linda Cordova Memorial Award; he proudly
  held a place on the Arlington Independent School District Wall of
  Fame, and he was a past president of the Arlington Arts League and
  a past board member of the Arlington Museum of Art; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  83rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
  bereaved family of Robert Mitchell Wilson; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
  Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
  so in honor of Mitch Wilson.
