SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 134
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize the City of Highland Village on the occasion of the
  50th anniversary of its incorporation; and
         WHEREAS, The City of Highland Village traces its roots to a
  small, rural farming community on the southern shores of Lake
  Lewisville; on February 14, 1963, its citizens voted overwhelmingly to
  incorporate; and
         WHEREAS, In the 1970 census, Highland Village's population was
  516; residents of the small community actively sought to live a relaxed
  lifestyle close to nature, and dances at the Doubletree Ranch were
  common; and
         WHEREAS, Over the years, Highland Village has grown to
  become a premier suburban community of some 15,000 residents; and
         WHEREAS, Highland Village has implemented a community
  policing model and has upgraded its volunteer fire department to
  a full-time staff of professionals; the city has for 10
  consecutive years been named the Safest City in North Texas, and
  it is the current Safest City in Texas; and
         WHEREAS, The city's population also benefits from
  excellent schools, which are part of the Lewisville Independent
  School District; and
         WHEREAS, The people of Highland Village have maintained a
  strong sense of community, and they still cherish the area's
  natural beauty; they are confidently facing the future while
  continuing to celebrate their past; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
  Legislature, hereby commend the citizens of Highland Village on
  their many contributions to the growth and prosperity of our
  state and extend to them best wishes on the 50th anniversary of
  the city's incorporation; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the city as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
