SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 152
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
welcome the citizens from across the state who are assembled in |
|
|
Austin on February 20, 2013, for Substance Abuse Prevention and |
|
|
Treatment Advocacy Day at the Capitol; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Substance abuse is a serious issue with social and |
|
|
financial costs that can destroy lives and families; the |
|
|
prevention of substance abuse and the treatment of chemical |
|
|
dependency are worthy endeavors and provide positive and |
|
|
measurable contributions to society; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Since 2005, three outstanding substance abuse |
|
|
treatment and prevention organizations have been working |
|
|
together to carry the message that these services are vital |
|
|
services for the state; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Texas Association of Addiction Professionals |
|
|
represents chemical dependency counselors; the Association of |
|
|
Substance Abuse Programs represents and coordinates over 60 |
|
|
community-based nonprofit substance abuse treatment and |
|
|
prevention organizations across the state; and the Texas Summit |
|
|
Committee for Prevention is a coalition of agencies focused on |
|
|
drug and alcohol prevention education; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, These organizations are hosting Substance Abuse |
|
|
Prevention and Treatment Advocacy Day to provide a forum for the |
|
|
discussion of substance abuse issues in the state and to advocate |
|
|
for legislative support in the fight against substance abuse and |
|
|
in the effort to heighten public awareness of this affliction; |
|
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
|
83rd Legislature, hereby proclaim February 20, 2013, Substance |
|
|
Abuse Prevention and Treatment Advocacy Day at the Capitol and |
|
|
commend all those who work each and every day to prevent and treat |
|
|
substance abuse; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|
|
recognition of this occasion. |
