SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 161
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
welcome the Grayson County delegation to Austin on the occasion
of Grayson County Day at the Capitol; and
WHEREAS, Grayson County was established by an act of the
1st Texas Legislature in 1846 and is named for Peter W. Grayson,
an attorney general for the Republic of Texas; the act specified
that the county seat be named in honor of Sidney Sherman, a leader
at the Battle of San Jacinto, resulting in the town of Sherman
being one of the few communities in the state named by an act of
  the legislature; and
WHEREAS, Grayson County has through the years been a center
for agriculture and manufacturing; in 1891, the world's largest
cottonseed oil mill was established in the county, and today, the
county is home to such commercial entities as Tyson Foods, Black
and Decker, and Texas Instruments; and
WHEREAS, The Grayson County delegation includes members of
the Sherman Chamber of Commerce and the Denison Area Chamber of
Commerce; these exemplary organizations offer invaluable
resources to both local citizens and their respective business
  communities; and
WHEREAS, The Sherman Chamber of Commerce provides its
members with a wide variety of programs to carry out its mission,
including Leadership Sherman and the Ambassador Club; these
programs serve as a vehicle through which business and professional
people work together to achieve their shared goals; and
WHEREAS, The Denison Area Chamber of Commerce has for more
than 100 years worked to encourage growth and enhance the quality
of life for residents; among its many successes is the role its
board played in the creation of Lake Texoma, which is one of the
  world's largest reservoirs; and
WHEREAS, The citizens of Grayson County are confidently
facing the future while continuing to cherish their rich and
colorful past; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
Legislature, hereby commend the people of Grayson County on their
many contributions to the growth and prosperity of the state and
extend to the county's delegation best wishes for a memorable
Grayson County Day; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
  honor of this special occasion.
