SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 170
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Kensen Shi, who has been named the individual winner of
  the Siemens Foundation's annual mathematics, science, and
  technology competition for high school students; and
 
         WHEREAS, Kensen is a senior at A&M Consolidated High School
  in College Station; he won this prestigious honor for his
  development of a computer algorithm that would increase a robot's
  ability to navigate around obstacles more efficiently; and
 
         WHEREAS, The algorithm is called the Lazy Toggle
  Probabilistic Roadmap Method and combines two earlier algorithms
  into a more effective algorithm that eliminates steps used in the
  other formulas; practical applications of the method could
  include such uses as driverless cars, factory robotics, and video
  game design; and
 
         WHEREAS, Kensen was awarded a $100,000 scholarship from
  the Siemens Foundation for his efforts; he is truly deserving
  of recognition for his commitment and his hard work; now,
  therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
  Legislature, hereby commend Kensen Shi on his many outstanding
  achievements and extend congratulations to him on being named the
  individual winner in the Siemens Foundation's annual mathematics,
  science, and technology competition; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
