SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 175
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
join the citizens of Hebbronville in celebrating the city's 100th |
|
anniversary as the county seat of Jim Hogg County; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Hebbronville was established in 1883 when the |
|
Texas-Mexican Railway Company built a line through the area; the |
|
company contacted local rancher James R. Hebbron, who arranged |
|
for the sale of land to create a new townsite; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In 1913, Hebbronville became a part of the newly |
|
established Jim Hogg County; the town was chosen as the county |
|
seat in a unanimous vote, and the courthouse, school system, and |
|
Hebbronville State Bank were organized that same year; the town |
|
continued to grow in the ensuing years, adding such businesses as |
|
a theater, a hotel, grocery stores, and a newspaper; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Today, Hebbronville continues to thrive as a |
|
center of commerce and social activity for the people of Jim Hogg |
|
County; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The citizens of Hebbronville are confidently |
|
facing the future while continuing to embrace their rich and |
|
colorful past; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
83rd Legislature, hereby commend the citizens of Hebbronville on their |
|
many contributions to our state and extend to them best wishes for a |
|
memorable celebration of the city's 100th anniversary as the county |
|
seat of Jim Hogg County; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
the city as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
