SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 190
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize the Briscoe Ranch Cook-off at the Crossroads in Uvalde
  as a Texas State Barbecue Championship competition; and
 
         WHEREAS, This exceptional event is supported by Uvalde
  County, Briscoe Ranch, Incorporated, and the South Texas
  CattleWomen, and it is promoted by the Uvalde Festival and Events
  Association, Incorporated; and
 
         WHEREAS, The town of Uvalde has a long and storied history
  of barbecue cook-offs dating back to 1972; the community has been
  home to such notable personalities as Vice President John Nance
  Garner, Governor Dolph Briscoe, Jr., National Football League
  star Vann McElroy, and actor Matthew McConaughey; and
 
         WHEREAS, Proceeds from this outstanding event are donated
  each year to fund scholarships at Southwest Texas Junior College,
  a top 10 community college with four campuses serving 11 area
  counties; and
 
         WHEREAS, Texans are noted for their love of barbecue, and
  this event is sure to provide cuisine to satisfy the most
  discriminating of palates; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
  Legislature, hereby commend the organizers and sponsors of the
  Briscoe Ranch Cook-off at the Crossroads on their charitable
  efforts and extend to all those associated with the event best
  wishes for a memorable experience; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
  honor of this exemplary event.
