SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 206
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the Texas Section of the American Society of Civil
Engineers on the grand occasion of its centennial year; and

WHEREAS, The Texas Section owes its beginnings to a group
of seven engineers who discussed the idea of a statewide
organization after a Texas Good Roads meeting in Corpus Christi
in July of 1913; the organization was formally established at a
meeting in Dallas three months later on October 31; and

WHEREAS, Over the last 100 years, the Texas Section has
provided a forum for Texas civil engineers to discuss technical
issues, address major technological challenges, and promote high
  professional standards; and

WHEREAS, More than 10,000 civil engineers play a major role
in providing Texans with roads and bridges, safe drinking water,
stable structures, and storm and waste water systems; the civil
engineers of Texas rebuild towns struck by disaster and design
and maintain the infrastructure that keeps our citizens safe and
our state moving forward; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
83rd Legislature, hereby commend the civil engineers of Texas
for their invaluable work on behalf of our state and its citizens
and extend congratulations to them on the 100th anniversary of

  and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
honor of this centennial year and as an expression of esteem from
