SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 223
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
join the Houston chapter of the American Society of Heating, |
|
|
Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers as they celebrate |
|
|
February 17 through 23, 2013, as National Engineers Week; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Engineering has been called the "invisible" or |
|
|
"stealth" profession; almost everything around us that we use |
|
|
every day has been engineered in some way, yet we may not see the |
|
|
engineers behind the scenes or know much about engineering; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Engineers use their scientific and technical |
|
|
knowledge and skills in creative and innovative ways to fulfill |
|
|
society's needs; they face and solve major technological |
|
|
challenges of our time, from designing efficient building |
|
|
systems to rebuilding towns devastated by natural disasters; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, National Engineering Week is celebrated |
|
|
throughout the country by a wide range of engineering, |
|
|
educational, and cultural organizations whose members are |
|
|
dedicated to ensuring a vigorous, diverse, and well-educated |
|
|
future workforce by increasing public understanding of |
|
|
engineering and technology careers and motivating young people |
|
|
to pursue such careers; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The celebration of National Engineers Week serves |
|
|
to raise awareness about the positive contributions that |
|
|
engineers make to everyday life and the importance and value of a |
|
|
technical education and a high level of literacy in science, |
|
|
technology and mathematics; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The engineering field has many specialties and is |
|
|
as varied as engineers themselves, whose work can include the |
|
|
design and construction of large buildings and roads or the |
|
|
fashioning of delicate medical instruments; our society will look |
|
|
more than ever to engineers and their knowledge and skills in order |
|
|
to meet the challenges of the future; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend the engineers of this state on their |
|
|
valuable contributions to society and proclaim February 17 through |
|
|
23, 2013, as National Engineers Week in Texas; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|
|
honor of this special occasion. |
