SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 224

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Kevin L. Thompson for his many years of outstanding service to the Wichita Falls community; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Thompson is peer services coordinator at the Helen Farabee Mental Centers, where he conducts patient and family education programs, organizes and conducts group therapy, provides case management for those with severe persistent mental illness, and organizes peer support services; and

WHEREAS, He brings his own experiences to bear in his work with those suffering from such mental illnesses as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and major depressive disorder; his own successful recovery from mental illness has served as an inspiration to those who continue to struggle with similar illnesses; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Thompson is a certified peer specialist and played an important role in creating the field's first standardized examination; he is a member of the board of Texas Catalyst for Empowerment and serves as a presenter for In Our Own Voice with the National Alliance on Mental Illness; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Thompson has had a profound impact on the mental health community in Wichita Falls, and he is truly deserving of recognition for his many outstanding achievements; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby commend Kevin L. Thompson on his many contributions to his community and extend to him best wishes for continued success in all his endeavors; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
