SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 232
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
welcome the Tyler, Longview, and Kilgore delegations to Austin |
|
|
for East Texas Coalition Days at the State Capitol, which are |
|
|
being celebrated February 24 through 26, 2013; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Tyler is widely recognized as the region's |
|
|
preeminent center for medical care, and it provides exemplary |
|
|
educational opportunities to more than 18,000 college students |
|
|
who attend the city's many excellent institutions of higher |
|
|
education; its great natural beauty and such notable attractions |
|
|
as the Caldwell Zoo, the Tyler Rose Garden, the Tyler Museum of Art, |
|
|
and the award-winning Discovery Science Place draw thousands of |
|
|
visitors each year; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Longview is the seat of Gregg County and its |
|
|
largest city; it is home to LeTourneau University and boasts |
|
|
numerous cultural attractions, including the Longview Museum of |
|
|
Fine Arts, the Gregg County Museum, and the R. G. LeTourneau |
|
|
Museum; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Gregg County's thriving and diversified economy |
|
|
is led by agriculture and the petroleum industry and also |
|
|
features manufacturing and mining in prominent roles; tourists |
|
|
flock to the area for such attractions as the Great Texas Balloon |
|
|
Race in Longview, the Texas Shakespeare Festival in Kilgore, the |
|
|
Roughneck Day Festival in White Oak, and East Texas Gusher Days |
|
|
in Gladewater; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Kilgore is known as the City of Stars for the many |
|
|
star-topped derricks that crowd an acre of downtown real estate; it |
|
|
has been the home of such notables as pianist Van Cliburn, |
|
|
legendary Texas Ranger Manuel T. "Lone Wolf" Gonzaullas, and the |
|
|
celebrated Kilgore College Rangerettes; the East Texas Oil Museum |
|
|
celebrates the oil boom of the 1930s, and the city is still home to |
|
|
the largest oil field in the lower 48 states; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The people of East Texas have played a prominent |
|
|
role in our state's rich and colorful history, and it is truly |
|
|
fitting that their achievements be celebrated; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend the citizens of East Texas for their |
|
|
many outstanding contributions to the growth and prosperity of |
|
|
our state and extend to the delegations from Tyler, Longview, and |
|
|
Kilgore best wishes for a successful celebration of East Texas |
|
|
Coalition Days at the State Capitol; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|
|
honor of this special occasion. |
