SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 242
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  James Moore West
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of Fort Worth in mourning the loss of James Moore West,
  who died January 25, 2013, at the age of 89; and
 
         WHEREAS, Mr. West was a man of diverse interests and
  accomplishments; he loved travel and literature and had a passion
  for both the humanities and the sciences, with an affinity for
  engineering that served him exceedingly well throughout his
  life; and
 
         WHEREAS, Born July 12, 1923, Mr. West attended Paschal High
  School in Fort Worth and The Citadel Military Academy, but his
  college studies were interrupted by the outbreak of war; he
  enlisted in the United States Army and attained a commission as
  an infantry officer, and in 1945 he married his childhood
  sweetheart, Pauline, in Fort Worth before leaving for overseas
  service; and
 
         WHEREAS, After serving admirably in World War II, Mr. West
  returned home and earned a civil engineering degree from The
  University of Texas at Austin; he was soon hired by Standard Oil
  of California, and over the next 36 years lived in Colorado,
  Louisiana, and Texas and traveled extensively for the company; he
  was also awarded two patents for pipeline designs that are still
  used worldwide; and
 
         WHEREAS, Upon his retirement, Mr. and Mrs. West undertook
  many travels together; they enjoyed hiking trips in New Zealand,
  driving jaunts through Europe, and various ocean cruises in their
  later years; and
 
         WHEREAS, Inseparable and devoted, James and Pauline West
  shared 68 years of life and love; they raised two children,
  Thomas and Josephine, and took great pride in their extended
  family; and
 
         WHEREAS, Mr. West was an innovative and creative man who
  loved to design and tinker; a licensed amateur radio operator who
  built his own ham radio and a color television set, he also had a
  strong interest in aviation and obtained his private pilot's
  license, built his own airplane, and logged more than 1,000 miles
  in the air over the course of a lifetime; and
 
         WHEREAS, Mr. West was known for his fine memory, his sharp
  wit, and his warmth and wisdom; he will be deeply missed, and his
  family and friends will forever cherish the time they shared;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  83rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
  bereaved family of James Moore West; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  them as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate,
  and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
  James West.
