SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 271
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  O. J. Blakey
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of O. J. Blakey, who died January 27, 2013,
  at the age of 82; and
         WHEREAS, O. J. Blakey was born August 6, 1930, in Savoy;
  after his 1947 graduation from Savoy High School, he earned a
  bachelor's degree from East Texas State University and pursued
  postgraduate studies at Midwestern State University; and
         WHEREAS, He served the nation with distinction as a member
  of the United States Air Force in the Korean War; following his
  military service, he worked for 10 years as a civilian engineer
  at Shepard Air Force Base, where he focused his efforts on
  projects associated with satellites and the space race; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Blakey then embarked on a 31-year career with
  the company that became the Lockheed Martin Corporation; his work
  on numerous weapons programs played a role in the nation's safety
  and security during the Cold War; and
         WHEREAS, A devout Christian who practiced his faith in his
  daily life, Mr. Blakey was a longtime member of Tate Springs
  Baptist Church, where he served as deacon chairman, trustee,
  finance and drama committee member, and Sunday school and
  Vacation Bible School teacher; and
         WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he
  gave unselfishly to others, and his generous spirit, his love of
  the outdoors, and his enthusiasm for living each day to the
  fullest will not be forgotten; and
         WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and
  grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured
  forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of O. J. Blakey; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of O. J. Blakey.
