SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 296
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize February 26, 2013, as Texas Grammy Music Day at the
  Capitol; and
 
         WHEREAS, Texas' unique musical heritage has enriched the
  state, the nation, and the world; the birthplace of distinctive
  musical styles such as Texas Country and Tejano, Texas has a rich
  history of producing culturally significant artists and
  musicians from every musical genre; and
 
         WHEREAS, The Recording Academy, the organization
  responsible for the Grammy Awards, established a Texas chapter to
  serve the Texas music community in 1998; artists and music
  professionals from Texas were nominated for 28 awards and won
  nine awards at the 55th Annual Grammy Awards; and
 
         WHEREAS, The Texas Music Office was created by the Texas
  Legislature to promote and support the state's music industry;
  live music festivals in Texas generate hundreds of millions of
  dollars annually in economic activity for the state, and nearly
  150,000 jobs in the state are estimated to be tied to the music
  industry; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
  Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the music industry and the
  important role it plays in the lives of Texans and proclaim
  February 26, 2013, Texas Grammy Music Day at the Capitol; and, be
  it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
  honor of the music industry in Texas and as an expression of
  esteem from the Texas Senate.
