SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 302
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Reverend L. David Punch on the occasion of his 10th
  anniversary as pastor of the Greater Zion Missionary Baptist
  Church in Houston; and
         WHEREAS, Reverend Punch became the eighth pastor of this
  historic church in 2002, after having served as coordinator of
  ministry and associate pastor at Trinity Missionary Baptist
  Church; he is a third-generation minister who followed in the
  footsteps of his grandfather, the late Reverend Jonas E. Punch,
  and his father, Reverend James E. Punch; and
         WHEREAS, Under his exceptional leadership, the Greater
  Zion Missionary Baptist Church has continued to grow and to play
  a vital role in the life of the Third Ward community;
  inspirational and dedicated to helping others, this beloved
  pastor has ministered faithfully to the temporal and spiritual
  needs of his congregation; and
         WHEREAS, Reverend Punch has also served the community at
  large in a number of ways, notably through his work on providing
  affordable housing for seniors; he is president and chief
  executive officer of Re-Ward Third Ward, Incorporated; and
         WHEREAS, A man of spiritual depth and devotion, Pastor
  Punch has had a profound influence on the lives of countless
  people; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
  Legislature, hereby commend Reverend L. David Punch for his
  achievements as pastor of the Greater Zion Missionary Baptist
  Church in Houston and extend to him best wishes for continued
  success in all his endeavors; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
