Robert Sneed Davie |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|
|
citizens of Fort Worth in mourning the loss of Robert Sneed |
|
|
Davie, who died February 8, 2013, at the age of 94; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This tireless public servant and war veteran was |
|
|
born January 12, 1919, in Elmore City, Oklahoma; he grew up in |
|
|
Carter County, Oklahoma, and graduated from Healdton High |
|
|
School; he attended The University of Texas at Austin, where he |
|
|
earned both a history degree and a law degree; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Davie served his country as an artillery |
|
|
spotter during World War II; he saw combat in the Philippines and |
|
|
South Korea and was awarded a Purple Heart; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, After the war, Mr. Davie worked as a prosecutor in |
|
|
Scurry and Dallas Counties before moving his family to |
|
|
Washington, D.C., in 1957; he worked for the Indian Claims |
|
|
Commission and returned to Texas in 1964 to accept an appointment |
|
|
as a hearings examiner with the Fort Worth office of the Social |
|
|
Security Administration; he eventually became an administrative |
|
|
law judge; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This accomplished gentleman was also a man of |
|
|
faith, and he gave generously of his time; he was a teacher and |
|
|
president of his Sunday school class at First United Methodist |
|
|
Church in Fort Worth, and he was active in Kiwanis, Golden K, and |
|
|
the Tarrant Alliance for the Mentally Ill; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and wisdom, |
|
|
Mr. Davie was beloved by many, and he leaves behind memories that |
|
|
will be cherished forever; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
|
83rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the |
|
|
bereaved family of Robert Sneed Davie; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the |
|
|
Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do |
|
|
so in memory of Robert Sneed Davie. |
