SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 331
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Matthew Draeger of Paris, who has been named one of |
|
|
Texas' top two youth volunteers for 2013 by the Prudential Spirit |
|
|
of Community Awards program; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Prudential Financial, in partnership with the |
|
|
National Association of Secondary School Principals, presents |
|
|
these awards annually to honor young people across the nation for |
|
|
outstanding volunteerism and community service; now in its 18th |
|
|
year, the program is the country's largest youth recognition |
|
|
program based solely on volunteer service; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A sophomore at Paris High School, Matthew leads a |
|
|
team of students who have together secured donations of |
|
|
approximately 20,000 household and personal items and |
|
|
distributed them to local families in need; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In addition to teaching students about community |
|
|
service, Matthew's project has enriched his own life, along with |
|
|
the lives of many underserved residents of Paris, where 24 |
|
|
percent of the population is indigent; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The success and vitality of our communities, our |
|
|
state, and our American society depend in great measure upon the |
|
|
dedication of young people like Matthew, who use their time and |
|
|
talents to serve others; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Matthew has shown by his example that he |
|
|
personifies the true spirit of giving to the community; he is |
|
|
truly deserving of recognition for his dedication to the needs of |
|
|
others; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd |
|
|
Legislature, hereby congratulate Matthew Draeger for being |
|
|
selected as one of our state's top two youth volunteers and |
|
|
extend to him best wishes for success in all his future |
|
|
endeavors; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
