SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 347
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
join the residents of Houston's Gulfton community in celebrating |
|
|
the dedication and grand opening of the SER-Niños Charter |
|
|
School's new middle school campus, which is taking place March 2, |
|
|
2013; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The SER-Niños Charter School originally opened |
|
|
its doors in 1996; one of the first charter schools in the state, |
|
|
it offers at-risk children a high-quality prekindergarten |
|
|
through eighth grade education built around an innovative dual |
|
|
language curriculum; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The school was founded on the premise that every |
|
|
child can develop the characteristics and abilities to overcome |
|
|
economic hardship and achieve success; in addition to a rigorous |
|
|
curriculum, the school offers an environment in which good |
|
|
citizenship and social responsibility are integral parts of its |
|
|
programs; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The importance of a college education is stressed |
|
|
to each student, and there is a strong emphasis on making parental |
|
|
participation an essential part of the process; the school has |
|
|
three times received the Governor's Educator Excellence Award for |
|
|
Marked Achievement with an at-risk population, and the middle |
|
|
school has been rated as exemplary; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The opening of an expanded middle school campus is |
|
|
a reflection of the school's enduring commitment to preparing its |
|
|
students to face the challenges of today's complex society; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend the students, faculty, and staff of |
|
|
SER-Niños Charter School on their dedication to excellence in |
|
|
education and extend to them best wishes for a memorable |
|
|
dedication and grand opening ceremony for the school's new |
|
|
campus; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
the school as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
