SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 348
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Beatrice Lehman Green on the grand occasion of her
  100th birthday; and
         WHEREAS, This exemplary lady is well known for her charm
  and generosity of spirit, and she is a revered citizen who is
  active in Houston's Third Ward; and
         WHEREAS, Beatrice Green was born March 1, 1913, in Mansura,
  Louisiana; she attended Concordia College in Selma, Alabama, and
  moved to Houston in the late 1930s; she was married to the late
  Allie Charles Green for 60 years; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Green worked for 40 years for the James
  Baker, Jr., family in Houston; she played an important role
  taking care of the family's children, one of whom, James Baker
  III, became United States Secretary of State; she served for a
  time as Mrs. Baker's personal secretary; and
         WHEREAS, A devout Christian who practices her faith in her
  daily life, Mrs. Green is a founding member of Holy Cross
  Lutheran Church, where she has taken part in a wide variety of
  ministries, including choir, the Lutheran Women Missionary
  League, and the Altar Guild; and
         WHEREAS, She has been active in political affairs for many
  years; she participated in sit-ins at the State Capitol during
  the civil rights movement and served as an assistant precinct
  judge over a 50-year period; throughout her life, she has served
  with numerous community organizations and is currently mascot
  for the Third Ward Line Dancers; and
         WHEREAS, A beloved and respected member of her community,
  she is noted for her affectionate and engaging personality, her
  compassion for others, and her enthusiasm for living each day to
  the fullest; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  83rd Legislature, hereby commend Beatrice Lehman Green on her
  many achievements and extend to her best wishes for a memorable
  100th birthday celebration; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her as a memento of this milestone in her life.
