SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 349
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Pat Crow on the occasion of her 70th birthday; and
         WHEREAS, A longtime activist and campaign manager, Pat
  Crow has played an important role in the governance of Austin and
  the state; an insightful individual and political strategist,
  she is well known for choosing promising political candidates and
  coaching them to victory; and
         WHEREAS, Pat was born in 1943 to a military family and
  traveled the world as a child; her life has included many
  adventures, such as hearing Tito speak, living in occupied Japan,
  and being a bystander along the path of John F. Kennedy's
  motorcade in Dallas in 1963; and
         WHEREAS, Pat was inspired to enter a life of activism after
  reading Betty Friedan's The Feminine Mystique; she soon began to
  organize on behalf of women's issues and attended the founding
  meeting of the Texas Women's Political Caucus in 1971; she became
  an officer in the Austin Women's Political Caucus, and by 1982,
  she was ready to apply her efforts to the political arena as a
  campaign manager; and
         WHEREAS, She began her career as a political consultant by
  leading Debra Ravel to victory in a race for justice of the peace
  in 1982; over the years, she has led numerous other candidates to
  victory, including Sally Shipman, Glen Maxey, Brigid Shea, and
  Will Wynn; among the many initiatives she has successfully
  shepherded through the electoral process are Austin's Save Our
  Springs Ordinance and the ballot creating the Travis County
  Healthcare District; and
         WHEREAS, While recovering from a medical setback she
  suffered in the summer of 2012, Pat has shown the same courage and
  determination in facing adversity and in handling her
  rehabilitation as she has throughout her years of activism; her
  family, her friends, and the many political figures whose lives
  she has touched are grateful to see her in recovery and in good
  spirits; and
         WHEREAS, Pat has been an invaluable voice for progressive
  government in Austin and across the state, and she is truly
  deserving of recognition on her 70th birthday and on this
  milestone in her life; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  83rd Legislature, hereby commend Pat Crow on her exceptional
  accomplishments and extend to her best wishes for the future;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
