SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 375
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize San Antonio Pets Alive! on the occasion of its first |
|
|
anniversary; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This dedicated no-kill organization was founded |
|
|
in January of 2012 and incorporated with nonprofit status in |
|
|
April of 2012; in one short year, the group has helped save the |
|
|
lives of more than 5,900 animals and has exponentially increased |
|
|
awareness among citizens that there are alternatives to pet |
|
|
surrender, which often results in euthanasia; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Working in partnership with the City of San |
|
|
Antonio, this laudable group functions on a grassroots level to |
|
|
save dogs and cats through adoption, foster care, urgent medical |
|
|
care, bottle-feeding programs, and community education; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, San Antonio Pets Alive! has achieved remarkable |
|
|
results; after its inception, the city shelter's save rate jumped |
|
|
from 30 percent in October of 2011 to 72 percent the following |
|
|
October; the group's ultimate mission is to achieve and sustain a |
|
|
90 percent save rate and to make San Antonio the largest no-kill |
|
|
city in the country; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This outstanding nonprofit organization has |
|
|
successfully motivated and coordinated the efforts of community |
|
|
members, businesses, and volunteers to save the lives of |
|
|
thousands of pets and find them safe and loving homes; it is |
|
|
indeed worthy of praise and recognition for its humane efforts; |
|
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend San Antonio Pets Alive! on the |
|
|
occasion of its first anniversary and extend to its staff and |
|
|
volunteers sincere best wishes for further success in all their |
|
|
future endeavors; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
this exceptional organization as an expression of esteem from the |
|
|
Texas Senate. |
