Karen Martinez |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|
|
citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of newswoman Karen |
|
|
Martinez, who died February 18, 2013, at the age of 37; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This outstanding reporter and well-known |
|
|
community figure was chief anchorwoman of San Antonio television |
|
|
station KABB and served as its popular Fox News at Nine coanchor; |
|
|
she had also become a leading voice in the local campaign against |
|
|
breast cancer, a disease to which she succumbed after a valiant |
|
|
battle; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Born in San Antonio, Karen Martinez attended The |
|
|
University of Texas at San Antonio, where she received a degree |
|
|
in communications; in 1999, she joined the reporting staff at |
|
|
KABB and steadily moved up the ranks; she was promoted to |
|
|
coanchor of the station's flagship news program in 2009 and |
|
|
remained in that position until a couple of months before her |
|
|
death; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This remarkable woman was an exemplary role model |
|
|
not only for women but for all Texas citizens; she exhibited |
|
|
courage and professionalism, even as she battled daily with a |
|
|
grave disease; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Martinez will long be remembered for her |
|
|
contributions to the community of San Antonio and for the warmth, |
|
|
wit, and wisdom she shared regularly with her viewers; a loving |
|
|
wife and doting mother, she is survived by her husband, Joseph, |
|
|
and their three children; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd |
|
|
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|
|
family of Karen Martinez; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
|
Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
|
memory of Karen Martinez. |
