SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 378
         WHEREAS, Proud residents of Cedar Hill are visiting Austin
  on March 6, 2013, to pay tribute to their city's rich heritage and
  to celebrate Cedar Hill Day at the State Capitol; and
         WHEREAS, Founded in the 1850s, Cedar Hill lies in the
  rolling terrain of southwestern Dallas County; a post office was
  opened there in 1852, and for some time a branch of the Chisholm
  Trail connected the area to the main trail near Fort Worth;
  although a devastating tornado hit the small community in 1856,
  the area rebuilt and witnessed slow yet steady growth; and
         WHEREAS, Joe Pool Lake opened in 1989, leading to a
  dramatic expansion of the city's population, and today Cedar Hill
  contains three distinctive areas, Uptown, Midtown, and Downtown,
  each of which has its own experiences and amenities; downtown
  Cedar Hill offers visitors a glimpse into the town's history
  through walking tours of local monuments and the annual Country
  Day on the Hill celebration that draws thousands of visitors
  every fall; the newly developed Uptown Village has many local
  boutiques, national chains, and fine dining establishments;
  located between these two areas, Midtown has the most stand-alone
  shopping opportunities in the city, as well as various
  restaurants and a new multiplex; and
         WHEREAS, Visitors and residents alike enjoy the plentiful
  outdoor activities available at Cedar Hill State Park, which,
  with the adjoining Joe Pool Lake, draws hikers, cyclists,
  mountain bikers, campers, fishers, and water sports enthusiasts
  from across the state; moreover, the nearby Dogwood Canyon
  Audubon Center introduces guests of all ages to the diverse mix
  of flora and fauna from East, West, and Central Texas present in
  this unique park; and
         WHEREAS, A lush natural environment with all the benefits
  of a modern city, Cedar Hill is an excellent community to visit,
  live in, work, and raise a family, and its citizens may take great
  pride in their continuing contributions to the Lone Star State;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 83rd Texas Legislature
  hereby recognize March 6, 2013, as Cedar Hill Day at the State
  Capitol and extend sincere best wishes to the city's delegation
  for a memorable visit to Austin.
