SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 380
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Althea Lewis Renfro
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of Houston in mourning the loss of Althea Lewis Renfro,
  who died December 27, 2012, at the age of 85; and
         WHEREAS, Althea Lewis was born February 10, 1927, in
  Houston; a 1942 graduate of Phillis Wheatley High School, she
  earned a bachelor's degree from Houston College for Negroes and a
  master's degree from Texas Southern University; and
         WHEREAS, She married Porter Renfro, Jr., and she enjoyed a
  long and fulfilling career as an educator; she was a teacher at
  Crawford and Hohl Elementary Schools in the Houston Independent
  School District for more than 37 years and she was active in a
  number of professional and civic organizations; and
         WHEREAS, A devout Christian who practiced her faith in her
  daily life, she served as a church musician for over 30 years at
  Greater Mount Olive Baptist Church and Zion Hill Missionary
  Baptist Church; she was also a prolific poet whose work included
  the lyrics to the gospel song "Use Your Faith"; and
         WHEREAS, A woman of courage and compassion, she gave
  generously to others, and her wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel
  will not be forgotten by those who were privileged to share in her
  life; and
         WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother,
  and she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by
  her family and countless friends; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  83rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
  bereaved family of Althea Lewis Renfro; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
  Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
  so in memory of Althea Renfro.
