SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 390
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in
  acknowledging Gustavo "Gus" Barrera, who is retiring as
  volunteer executive director of the Falfurrias Chamber of
  Commerce; and
         WHEREAS, For the past 35 years, Gus has served as a
  tireless public servant and champion of economic growth and
  opportunity in Falfurrias; throughout his tenure, he has
  promoted expansion of the town's traditional industries of
  cattle, oil, and agriculture to include a focus on the retail and
  service industries; and
         WHEREAS, His efforts have resulted in grants, utility
  incentives, and revenue bonds that have brought in such
  businesses as grocery stores, discount retailers, hotels, and an
  apparel factory; and
         WHEREAS, Often seen sporting a white cowboy hat, this
  diligent chamber of commerce leader has also pushed for more
  family-oriented community events, such as bicycle giveaways and
  Easter egg hunts; and
         WHEREAS, Gus has a long, honorable record of serving his
  country and community; a retired 21-year Air Force veteran, a
  former Brooks County commissioner, and a former administrative
  assistant to Texas Senator Carlos F. Truan, Gus has been fondly
  called a one-man army by his admirers; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
  Legislature, hereby commend Gustavo Barrera on his legacy of
  public service and extend to him best wishes for continued
  success in all his endeavors; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
