SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 396
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great |
|
|
pleasure in recognizing El Paso student Joella Methola, who |
|
|
recently received a 2013 Prudential Spirit of Community Award for |
|
|
her exemplary volunteerism; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This conscientious 12-year-old is among nine |
|
|
other Distinguished Finalists in Texas this year; nationwide, |
|
|
more than 28,000 young people participated in this year's |
|
|
program, which is designed to encourage and acknowledge good |
|
|
works by America's youths; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Despite her age, Joella has already established a |
|
|
track record as a volunteer; since 2011, the eighth-grader has |
|
|
helped raise more than $13,000 for worthy causes, including |
|
|
relief efforts on behalf of Haitian earthquake victims; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Joella is also a diligent servant in her hometown |
|
|
of El Paso; she serves on the board of her student council at |
|
|
Saint Pius X School and is currently the secretary for the National |
|
|
Junior Honor Society; in between all these activities, she finds time |
|
|
to mentor and tutor other youths in her community; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, For her generosity, Joella received an engraved |
|
|
bronze medallion; these annual honors are sponsored by |
|
|
Prudential Financial, Incorporated, in partnership with the |
|
|
National Association of Secondary School Principals; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Such national honors remind us that the success |
|
|
and vitality of our communities, our state, and our nation depend |
|
|
in great measure on the dedication of young people like Joella; |
|
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
|
83rd Legislature, hereby commend Joella Methola as a |
|
|
Distinguished Finalist in the 18th annual Prudential Spirit of |
|
|
Community Awards and extend to her sincere best wishes in all her |
|
|
future endeavors; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
Joella as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
