SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 418
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize the 2013 Frontier Fiesta BBQ Cook-Off as a Texas State
  Barbecue Championship competition; and
 
         WHEREAS, The first Frontier Fiesta took place in 1939, and
  the celebration is the oldest tradition on the University of
  Houston's main campus; a section of the university is set aside
  and transformed into a fully functional town known as Fiesta
  City, where for three days each year, such activities as variety
  shows, cultural and educational performances, carnival booths,
  and historical exhibits serve to bring the university and Houston
  communities together; and
 
         WHEREAS, This exceptional student-led event draws a crowd
  of more than 30,000 people each year and is sponsored by the
  university's Frontier Fiesta Association; during the fiesta, the
  much-anticipated barbecue competition takes place, and proceeds
  from the cook-off benefit the association's scholarship fund;
  and
 
         WHEREAS, Texans are noted for their love of barbecue, and
  the Frontier Fiesta BBQ Cook-Off has established a tradition of
  providing superior cuisine that satisfies the most
  discriminating of palates; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  83rd Legislature, hereby commend the organizers of the 2013
  Frontier Fiesta BBQ Cook-Off and extend to them best wishes for a
  successful event; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
  honor of this special occasion.
