SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 425
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in |
|
|
recognizing Austin resident Adela Garcia, who recently won her |
|
|
seventh title as Ms. Fitness Olympia; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This remarkable fitness icon is an inspiring role |
|
|
model for healthy living; her skill, strength, and determination |
|
|
as an international champion have made her one of the most |
|
|
admired fitness competitors in the world; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Born in 1970 in the Dominican Republic and raised |
|
|
with two rambunctious brothers, Adela grew up with a fiercely |
|
|
competitive spirit; she was introduced to weight training at the |
|
|
age of 17, and her passion for fitness and athletics blossomed |
|
|
after she competed in her first show in 1995; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Adela moved to the United States to attend college |
|
|
and began amassing wins in competitions across the country; by |
|
|
the time she was in her 30s, she had become an international |
|
|
contender, placing in the top ranks of Fitness International and |
|
|
Ms. Fitness Olympia shows; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Now in her early 40s, Adela continues to compete |
|
|
for titles; she has competed in some 30 professional events and |
|
|
claimed 15 victories; five of those are Fitness International wins |
|
|
and seven are Ms. Fitness Olympia crowns; in the Ms. Fitness Olympia |
|
|
competition, Adela holds the record for most victories; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This outstanding athlete serves as an inspiration |
|
|
to people of all ages and genders; her determination and ability |
|
|
to maintain grace under pressure have made her an exemplary |
|
|
competitor; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
|
83rd Legislature, hereby commend Adela Garcia for her |
|
|
record-setting victory as Ms. Fitness Olympia and extend to her |
|
|
best wishes in all her future endeavors; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
Adela Garcia as an expression of high regard from the |
|
|
Texas Senate. |
